Airport issue gives a whip to Oppn
BHAGALPUR: Incredible though it may seem, the different stands of the so-called Rama and Lakshman of the Bharatiya Janata Party on the airport issue here have virtually provided the opposition parties (Ravana Sena, as the BJP leaders openly call them) to hit at the "marmasthan" (sensitive points).
Just when the residents of the colonies, located adjacent to the aerodrome here, were shouting slogans against the local MP and MLA, the latter had no other option than to chorus with the agitators.

Sample some lines of Bhagalpur MLA and the urban development minister, Ashwini Kumar Choubey, while addressing the huge gathering there, "Yahan hawai adda meri chhati par banega, Agar kisi ka ghar ujada gaya to main gaddi ko laat mar doonga and kisi ka ghar ujaadkar vikas nahin kiya ja sakta."
Interestingly, the same MLA had said, in several election rallies of the Bhagalpur MP, Syed Shahnawaz Hussain, that the MP would do his best to link the Silk City through air route.
On the other hand, Hussain appears avoiding any statement about Choubey or airport. "Since I am not at Bhagalpur, do not ask me anything about Choubeyji or the airport. Choubeyji mere Rama hain aur main unka Lakshman, isliye unki har ichchha mujhe shirodharya hai (Choubey is like my elder brother and I must accept all his wishes)," he told TOI recently over phone.
But the opposition leaders (often marked as soldiers of Ravana, by their BJP counterparts) do not appear to miss the chance of hitting hard on the sensitive points of the BJP.

"Where is the discipline now? Rama is fighting none other than his Lakshman and the Ayodhya (read Bhagalpur) is paying the price of their differences. They do not want to provide Pushpak Viman to the common citizens," remarked Praveen Kumar Singh, a senior Congress leader.
Besides the opposition leaders, even people from the commercial fraternity have started criticising the airport row between the MP and MLA. "We have been deprived of better prospects in the silk business, only due to clash of their egos. Both of these heroes of modern Ramayana have, perhaps, forgotten that we voted for both of them," said one Inteshar Alam, a businessman dabbling with silk.
